Giftbomb

Extending Functionality with New Design and Tech Constraints

The Giftbomb mobile gift card app allows individuals to purchase digital gift cards for a variety of local businesses. Their mission is to enable thoughtful giving by encouraging spontaneous and scheduled gifting to surprise and delight recipients while simultaneously disrupting the manner in which consumers utilize gift cards.

THe Opportunity

As Giftbomb grows, they would like to consider ways in which they can increase user engagement while reflecting the product value and supporting the company’s mission.

They asked our design team to suggest new features that would support their goals:

  • Increase user engagement

  • Convey the value of merchants

  • Include a sense of human emotion


Approach

Understanding the Problem Space

Based on information we were given about Giftbomb’s users, I was able to construct a user journey map.  This helped me gain a better understanding of the user experience when giving a gift and allowed me to explore areas of opportunity for new features that would correlate with the Giftbomb goals.

Rapid Prototyping

I was on a team of 17 designers. Individually, designers developed 5-7 low-fidelity prototypes, approximately 120 low-fidelity prototypes in total.  

Prototypes were organized by themes in an effort to make the collection easier to review. A sprint scoping session was held with stakeholders and developers to prioritize business goals and a timeframe in which they would need to develop prototype features.

We submitted 10 of the top features in a Kano survey to Giftbomb users in an effort to learn more about what feature qualities would be considered a Performance or Delight issue. If the presence or absence of a feature would be impactful to the users.

How I Spent My Giftbomb

This feature will increase user engagement in the app as both givers and recipients will have a way to communicate, sharing how they enjoyed their Giftbomb through text and even photo.
